Plastiq is dedicated to protecting your payment information by using top-of-the-line security measures to ensure the security of every Plastiq account. You can also play a crucial role in keeping your information secure by actively managing your account's security settings and taking some steps to prevent bad actors from monitoring your web activity.
Using a Secure Password
The strongest passwords are unique and composed of a random mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Please avoid reusing any passwords you've created for other accounts. If you have multiple accounts sharing the same password, you risk fraudsters having access to all of these accounts if one is compromised. Follow the tips below when setting your password to make it as secure as possible.
- Your password should be long: 8 characters or more. We suggest using a unique phrase to make it harder to guess (eg. a quote or song lyric). This password should not reference any personal information that can be easily obtained by investigating public records or any of your social media profiles.
- Make your password a random mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using any patterns, sequences, or obvious phrases (eg. ABCpasswordDEF or openup123). An example of a strong password could be "$t4RTYR3ng1nE#" or "1h4v3%tH3PwR>"
- We strongly advise against writing down your password. If you want to easily keep track of multiple, complex passwords, we recommend utilizing a password manager to safely store and encrypt all of your active passwords. If you opt to keep your password on a piece of paper, please store the document securely in a place that's not near your computer.
If you suspect that your Plastiq password has been compromised, please reset your password immediately. If you believe your account has been accessed by an outside party or if you need help with resetting your password, please reach out to our service team for further assistance.
Enabling 2-Step Authentication
Your Plastiq account comes with a secondary security feature that can be enabled at any time to add another layer of security at every login attempt. If your account's password is compromised, 2-step authentication (2-SA) will prevent bad actors from accessing your account without a verification code.
We strongly recommend enabling this feature in your Account Settings to enhance the security of your account.
Updating Your Browser & Managing Extensions
Using an obsolete version of your web browser is a security vulnerability. Older versions can lack important security updates which could leave your web activity exposed to hackers. Additionally, third-party extensions and tools for your browser might have access to sensitive information and installing a malicious service could result in a security breach.
Do not download extensions or applications from unknown or unverifiable sources. You should also take time to manage your active browser extensions and adjust permissions so only essential tools can access your personal information and view browsing activity. Make sure your browser version is up-to-date and that it's set to update automatically.
