What is a "Cross-Border" Payment?
When you submit a payment with a card that's issued in a country different from the recipient's country, we call this a cross-border payment. For example, a payment using a Canadian credit card to pay a business in the US is a cross-border payment.
These cross-border payments have an additional 1% handling fee assessed. For these payments, you will see the "cross-border fee" displayed on the Review page as part of your fee breakdown. This breakdown will always be shown prior to the submission of your payment.
"My payment should not have incurred this fee."
If you believe Plastiq has incorrectly assessed a cross-border fee on your payment, please contact plastiq-service@plastiq.com and provide the following:
- A screenshot showing this fee being assessed to your payment.
- An image of your card's statement that shows:
-The full name of the cardholder
-The card's billing address
-The account type (i.e. Personal or Business card?) - The last four digits of the card in question.
Once our team has all of the above documentation, we can investigate this issue further.
